GRAND OPENING!!

The West Plains Art Center grand opening will be17 March 2012 from 10am - 3pm!!  Baked goods provided by LindeBee's Diner of Medical Lake, WA.  You will also have an opportunity to leave your creative mark on the Community Artist's Wall - it can be as simple as your name and a smiley face, or a small drawing symbolizing your favorite sport, like a basketball, followed by your initials.  See below for the featured artists at this event - their works will be available for purchase. I will also have my latest portraits on display.  Finally, you will have an opportunity to sign up for future classes at this event.

FEATURED ARTISTS:  There will be two local artists featured at the grand opening:

Dennis Smith:  A native of Western Washington, his work shows a composite of coastal life and Western environments.  He works in watercolor, scratchboard, oils, and acrylic washes.  He has shown at the MAC, and 1st Avenue gallery.   His current pieces will be on display through 10 May '12.

Janet Wilbanks:  Her subjects include portraits, animals, buildings, still life, and on occasion, landscapes.  She currently resides in Cheney, WA.  Janet's medium of choice is oils, though she has worked in ink, charcoal, scratchboard, and acrylics.  Her works will be on display through 10 June 2012.

FAMILY CRAFT NIGHT ($10.00 per family, 5 families per evening - supplies included)

COMING SOON!! Family craft night is a time for parents and their children to spend an evening together engaged in creative pursuits.  The premise is that the child is the artist during these sessions and his/her ideas should be encouraged to take flight. Parents are encouraged to support and to provide assistance when needed.  The goal is for kids to "put their imagination on paper" and leave the session with a signed work of art.  It is primarily a time for families to get together, out of the house, in a neutral environment, to spend quality time together.  This is an informal evening, i.e. no guided instruction.  A list of supplies provided by the West Plains Art Center will be posted in the near future.
